What is DTF
printing?

DTF stands for Direct to Film. Your design is printed onto a special PET film with white-base ink, then heat-pressed onto the shirt. The result is a full-color, photo-quality print with a soft hand feel that bonds permanently with the fabric.

DTF replaced screen printing for most modern small-to-medium apparel jobs because it has none of the downsides: no color limits, no setup fees, no minimums, no need for separate plates per design. It outperforms heat transfer vinyl on durability and detail, and it works on fabrics that screen print struggles with — performance/dri-fit, blends, and dark colors.

Full-color, photo-quality

Print logos, gradients, photos, complex designs — DTF reproduces every detail without limits on colors or shading.

No minimum orders

Print 1 shirt or 1,000. Same per-shirt setup process, no penalties for small batches. Perfect for crews of any size.

Works on any fabric

Cotton, polyester, blends, performance/dri-fit, hi-vis safety material, fleece — DTF bonds with all common shirt fabrics.

Any shirt color

White, black, navy, neon yellow — DTF works on every color because the white base is built into the print itself.

Fast turnaround

Most apparel orders ready within 5–7 business days from approval. Rush options available for urgent crew or event needs.

Durable through washing

50+ wash cycles when cared for properly. Wash inside-out in cold water, hang or tumble dry low, skip the bleach.

DTF vs the
alternatives.

The two most common alternatives we get asked about are embroidery and heat transfer vinyl (HTV). Each has its place — here's the honest breakdown:

Embroidery

  • Premium, raised-thread look — feels expensive
  • Best for polos, hats, jackets, bags, premium gifts
  • Limited to thread colors (no gradients or photos)
  • Setup fee per design (digitizing)
  • Higher per-piece cost & longer turnaround
  • Great as an upgrade — we offer it on request

DTF (our pick)

  • No minimums — 1 to 1,000 shirts
  • No color limits, no setup fees
  • Works on any fabric & any shirt color
  • Photo-quality detail with full color
  • Soft hand feel, durable through 50+ washes
  • Same per-shirt cost regardless of design complexity

Heat Transfer Vinyl

  • Best for simple text/logos (1–2 colors)
  • Color count adds time and cost
  • Stiffer hand feel than DTF
  • Less durable on heavy-wash use
  • Limited to flat shapes

Looking for embroidery on polos, jackets or hats? Just ask — we offer embroidery as an upgrade for premium uniform programs.

Custom apparel FAQ.

What is DTF printing?

DTF (Direct to Film) is a modern apparel printing method where your design is printed onto a special PET film with full-color and white-base inks, then heat-pressed onto the shirt. It produces full-color, photo-quality prints on any fabric and any shirt color, including dark shirts and performance fabrics. The print bonds permanently with the fibers and stays soft to the touch.

Do you have a minimum order for company shirts?

No minimums. We can print single shirts (great for samples or 1-off promotional gifts), small batches for a 3-person crew, or full uniform programs for hundreds of employees. Bulk orders receive volume pricing — call (239) 880-6856 for a quote based on your team size.

How long do DTF prints last?

Properly cared-for DTF prints last 50+ commercial wash cycles — meaning your shirts stay vibrant for years of regular wear. Wash inside-out in cold water, hang or tumble dry on low, skip the bleach and avoid ironing directly over the print. Restaurant and crew uniforms running through commercial laundry hold up great.

Can DTF print on any color shirt?

Yes — unlike screen printing, DTF works equally well on white, black, navy, charcoal, neon yellow, hi-vis orange, and every color in between. The white underbase is built into the print itself, so the colors of your design stay bright and accurate even on dark shirts.

What kinds of garments can you print?

T-shirts (cotton, blend, tri-blend), polos (cotton or performance/dri-fit), long-sleeve shirts, tank tops, hoodies, sweatshirts, hi-vis safety wear, athletic/performance fabrics, fleece, aprons and kids sizes. Basically any cotton, polyester or blend garment that can handle a heat press.

Can you provide the shirts, or do I bring my own?

Both. We have catalog access to thousands of garment options from Bella+Canvas, Gildan, Next Level, Hanes, Carhartt, Port & Company, Sport-Tek and more — pick your style, color and sizing and we handle ordering. If you already have shirts (employee uniforms, special purchases), we can print on those too.

How fast can I get my company shirts?

Standard turnaround is 5–7 business days from artwork approval to ready-for-pickup. Rush production (24–72 hours) is available for urgent needs like new hires, last-minute events or trade shows — additional rush fee applies depending on quantity.

that pair well.
