Boat & Marine Wraps FAQ.
Will the wrap last in salt water?
Yes — we use 3M IJ180 marine-rated cast vinyl with premium marine adhesives engineered for constant salt exposure. Expect 3–5 years on actively trailered or moored saltwater boats and 5–7+ years on storage-only or freshwater boats. Wraps that fail early are almost always cheap calendared sign vinyl installed in a hurry — we never use that material on a hull.
How do you install on a wet hull?
We don't. Vinyl install requires a fully dry, dewaxed, oil-free hull at 60–90°F surface temperature. If the boat is at a marina, we either pull it for a day to a dry rack, install on the trailer, or schedule install after the hull has been hauled and dried for 24–48 hours. Installing on wet fiberglass guarantees adhesion failure within weeks — we won't do it.
Can you wrap over old name or lettering?
In most cases we remove the existing vinyl first, lightly buff any adhesive residue and apply fresh material — this gives the best long-term bond. If the old lettering is paint-applied and bonded to the gel coat, we can vinyl over it as long as the surface is flat and stable. Old peeling vinyl is removed at the same visit and included in the quote.
What if I damage a section after install?
Marine vinyl is repairable in panels — if you scuff a section on a piling, ding a quarter panel or tear vinyl during a haul-out, we re-cut and reinstall just that piece, color-matched to the existing wrap. Spot repairs typically run Quote on request depending on panel size. We keep your design file on hand to print exact replacement sections years later.
Do you do tournament rigging logos?
Yes — tournament sponsor decals, custom team graphics, captain's name lettering and sponsor logo layouts for fishing tournaments are a regular project. We work with king mackerel, redfish, snook and tarpon tournament teams across SWFL. Quick-turn sponsor adds (one logo on an existing wrap) typically install in 2–3 business days from approval.
How long do boat wraps last in saltwater?
Properly installed marine-grade vinyl lasts 3–5 years on actively used boats in saltwater conditions. Storage-only or freshwater boats can hit 5–7+ years. Hand washing instead of pressure wash, and rinsing salt off after trips, extends life significantly.
Do I need to clean my boat before wrapping?
Yes — and it's part of our prep work. The hull needs to be wax-free, oil-free, dry and at proper temperature. We do the prep at our Lehigh Acres shop unless the boat is too large to transport, in which case we travel to the marina.
Can you wrap over gel coat? Painted hulls?
Yes to both — vinyl bonds well with gel coat (most fiberglass boats) and painted hulls in good condition. We test adhesion on a small area first if there's any concern about paint stability.
